Random Thursday

I have vowed to update my blog at least once a week. Lucky for you, nothing has gone on this week that I have taken pictures of so here is a random story of what is going on in the woods.

**Disclaimer - This story might be good for the weak of stomach. Enjoy!

This is Roscoe

He is my puppy.

I have had him for over a year.

I love this picture. I'm not sure why, but I think he looks adorable in it.

It is an old picture, taken about a year ago.

He is a much bigger puppy now. Adam has labeled him the "World's Biggest Maltese".

I think that just makes him fit in my family better. Ha

A little back ground on the whole getting of Roscoe. I went to book club at a fellow church members house and she had these little white fluffy puppies running around her house and I feel in love and I HAD to have one. Some woman see babies and want one, I see dogs (and purses) and want them. I went home to my husband and built up how cute these puppies are and how they are already partially house trained and how baaaaaaaaaaaaaad I wanted one. He said no.

A day goes by, I ask again. He says no.

A few days go by, I ask again. He says no.

A week goes by, I ask again. He says no.

I get mad and he says, "Do whatever you want."

So I got a new puppy! and Adam didn't speak to me for four days.

But I had my puppy.

Fast forwarded many months to present day and we have had some bumps on the road but Roscoe is a member of our family and Adam likes him. (Probably loves him, but won't admit it)

So for the last couple of months we have had an issue with Roscoe's bum stinking. He would smell it and have to go take care of it in his bed. I actually taught him that trick. I told him to act like a gentleman and he would take himself to his crate where I couldn't see it. I am rather proud of myself for that, he can't fetch but he is a gentleman! So then we started noticing that it is getting worse and stinking worse and liquid is actually coming out as well. ( That part is for the weak stomachs, I am done so please read on) So being the concerned parent that I am I "googled" it. There are tons of information on it, so that made me feel better. The problem is that his anal glands get full and it causes a real discomfort for your dog. My scientific research then proceeded to say that you can take your dog to the Vet and have the Vet take care of it or your dog groomer might do it. Well I knew I can scratch my groomer off the list. I'm not sure they cut Roscoe's hair good enough, I'm not going to let them start prodding at his bum. I thought before I take Roscoe to the vet and pay to have this taken care of I would do more research cause if a groomer can do it how hard can it be. Sure enough on the world wide web there is a video. And when you married to a farmer who needs a vet? So I emailed the video to my husband with the following conversation.

Me: I emailed you a video and I want you to take care of it at lunch.

FB(Farm boy): Oh great.
He then proceeds to actually watch the video

FB: You want me to do what?

Me: Come on, Roscoe is in discomfort and he needs his anal glands emptied.

Which I guess at this point you can probably picture what you have to do to empty them. I watched the video with no sound since I was technically at work. You lift up the tail and place your fingers at 5 and 7 o'clock around the bum hole and apply pressure. So see, really how hard can it be?

FB: I don't want to do this. I told you not to get him.

Me: Please. You are so qualified for this and I don't want to take him to the vet.

FB:  I might need you to hold him.

Me: I have seen you stick your arm up a cow to A.I. her in the middle of the field and you can't hold Roscoe and take care of this.

FB: Well he is the world's largest Maltese.

   Time passes

FB: Well I tried it and nothing happened.

Me: Did you do it at 5 and 7 o'clock?

FB: Yes and nothing.

So now I'm not sure what we are going to do. I am also not sure if Roscoe and Adam's relationship will ever be the same. I am pretty sure though Adam will try again. He is pretty persistent with stuff like that. He likes to know he has mastered something.

Same topic different thought:

All of this was new information. I am sitting at work trying to figure out what is wrong with my puppy and I tell my sister this and she goes "Oh yea, Your groomer doesn't take care of that?" Then a day later I'm explaining this to my mom and she goes "Your Granny used to have to do that with her dog" How do two people who don't like dogs and one which the family have dubbed as Cruella Deville know this stuff and not me? Blows my mind. So I can not keep this to myself, I want others that might be reading this and having problem with their dogs bum to know they are not alone.

I'm sure you all are hoping something great happens in the next week so that I will have more pictures and you will not have to read something so personal about Roscoe.

Happy Thursday.
