We started off today at the Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta. It was a small area that was part of the 1996 Olympics. It was so neat to stand here and think 14 years ago, athletes from all over the world was here to compete. When the Olympics were here they covered a 22 acre area. This was a very small part of that.
These torches were everywhere through out the whole park. I was disappointed that there was not much information provided to tell you about the park and what these torches were or what they meant or anything. So I just walked around and took pictures of what I thought looked neat.
This was the five rings and now they have made a water fountain out of it. At 10:00 in the morning on a Sunday, not much was happening. But I'm sure in the summer, kids are loving running through this.
After we left Atlanta on our way to Savannah we ran across the sign that pointed to Atlanta Motor Speedway and Adam got super excited so we took off to go explore. The real truth is that I saw a sign that said Outlet Mall and it didn't open until noon so we went exploring to kill time. We pulled up to this and all Adam wanted to do was see the track. It was cloudy and rainy and this track was in the middle of nowhere but it was locked down like Fort Knox. You couldn't get in the see the track anywhere and believe me we looked.
Finally Adam climbed this hill and thought he would be able to see the track, I told him I would stay put in the vehicle. This is what Adam saw.....
Needless to say, he was pretty disappointed. After circling around a couple more times we gave up the hope that he would see the track and headed back to the outlet mall. I have sold some old purses and some other gently used items at a garage sale at my mother in law's house and with my earnings and my empty purse box I knew exactly what I wanted buy and today was that magically day.
I am now the proud owners of two authentic coach purses! And I am in love!! They smell new and of leather and just make this girl pretty happy. After circling the store a endless number of times, I tore myself away from the coach store. And we went to Juliette to the Whistle Stop Coffee. "It's all in the sauce" Name that movie.
This was unbelievable. I loved being in the same room, heck maybe even the same booth as where a movie was shot. It was so cool to think about the movie and say, yep this is that part of the movie.A train went by like every 15 minutes and just added to the atmosphere. Even Adam, who hasn't seen the movie thought it was pretty cool.
We even got to eat at the cafe. The waitress was a doll. We drank cold Ice Tea out of old mason jars. I love the history of Georgia. Every where you go you are learning and thinking.
The homemade onion rings were so tasty!! The waitress told me they would be. Like I said, a doll.
After a walk down "Fried Green Tomatoes" lane we left and arrived at Savannah around 5:30 tonight. After a little rest, we traveled out to eat once again. I told Adam, if nothing else about this trip we have ate really well, and have ate really good food. We came across Uncle Bubba's Oyster House Restaurant. Uncle Bubba is kin to Paula Deen and cooking food is something that family does well.
While enjoying our meal, we had a little visitor. He/she kept to himself/herself, but it was funny to be eating crab and shrimp and then here comes a kitty. But I guess once you think about it, it's not so funny. The cat is smelling the seafood and wanting to get their fair share of it.
As we were leaving, there was two raccoons hanging out looking for scraps as well. It is time for me to get some rest. Eating like this is wearing me out! ha. Tomorrow is another day and much more to see and taste.
