A Torch, Purse, and Cat

We started off today at the Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta. It was a small area that was part of the 1996 Olympics. It was so neat to stand here and think 14 years ago, athletes from all over the world was here to compete. When the Olympics were here they covered a 22 acre area. This was a very small part of that.

These torches were everywhere through out the whole park. I was disappointed that there was not much information provided to tell you about the park and what these torches were or what they meant or anything. So I just walked around and took pictures of what I thought looked neat.

This was the five rings and now they have made a water fountain out of it. At 10:00 in the morning on a Sunday, not much was happening. But I'm sure in the summer, kids are loving running through this.

After we left Atlanta on our way to Savannah we ran across the sign that pointed to Atlanta Motor Speedway and Adam got super excited so we took off to go explore. The real truth is that I saw a sign that said Outlet Mall and it didn't open until noon so we went exploring to kill time. We pulled up to this and all Adam wanted to do was see the track. It was cloudy and rainy and this track was in the middle of nowhere but it was locked down like Fort Knox. You couldn't get in the see the track anywhere and believe me we looked.

Finally Adam climbed this hill and thought he would be able to see the track, I told him I would stay put in the vehicle. This is what Adam saw.....

Needless to say, he was pretty disappointed. After circling around a couple more times we gave up the hope that he would see the track and headed back to the outlet mall. I have sold some old purses and some other gently used items at a garage sale at my mother in law's house and with my earnings and my empty purse box I knew exactly what I wanted buy and today was that magically day.

I am now the proud owners of two authentic coach purses! And I am in love!! They smell new and of leather and just make this girl pretty happy. After circling the store a endless number of times, I tore myself away from the coach store. And we went to Juliette to the Whistle Stop Coffee. "It's all in the sauce"  Name that movie.

This was unbelievable. I loved being in the same room, heck maybe even the same booth as where a movie was shot. It was so cool to think about the movie and say, yep this is that part of the movie.A train went by like every 15 minutes and just added to the atmosphere. Even Adam, who hasn't seen the movie thought it was pretty cool.

We even got to eat at the cafe. The waitress was a doll. We drank cold Ice Tea out of old mason jars. I love the history of Georgia. Every where you go you are learning and thinking.

The homemade onion rings were so tasty!! The waitress told me they would be. Like I said, a doll.

After a walk down "Fried Green Tomatoes" lane we left and arrived at Savannah around 5:30 tonight. After a little rest, we traveled out to eat once again. I told Adam, if nothing else about this trip we have ate really well, and have ate really good food. We came across Uncle Bubba's Oyster House Restaurant. Uncle Bubba is kin to Paula Deen and cooking food is something that family does well.

While enjoying our meal, we had a little visitor. He/she kept to himself/herself, but it was funny to be eating crab and shrimp and then here comes a kitty. But I guess once you think about it, it's not so funny. The cat is smelling the seafood and wanting to get their fair share of it.

As we were leaving, there was two raccoons hanging out looking for scraps as well. It is time for me to get some rest. Eating like this is wearing me out! ha. Tomorrow is another day and much more to see and taste.

A Southern Greeting

Greeting from Georgia! We have officially landed in Atlanta. It seems like we have put a lot of miles behind us and that we have lot ahead of us but we are having fun and seeing some beautiful country. That is what I love about traveling, you get to see how God has decorated other parts of the country. Our vacation officially started Thursday and when I drug out my suitcase Roscoe just jumped right in like he should be packed as well. So I took this opportunity to have a photo shoot. He gets to spend the week with Chara and I know he will be spoiled and probably not want to come back home with me. Ha!

After we dropped Roscoe off at Chara's we then started our vacation with a concert from a country legend, Alan Jackson. He stopped in Springfield at the JQH Arena. I didn't realize until this concert that he has had 34 number one hits in the 20 years he has been performing. That blew me away. It was an awesome concert. I love going to concerts where you know all the songs and can sing along with them. Adam's personal favorite "Country Boy" was a big hit with the crowd. Must be something about driving a 4-wheel drive.

This was us at the concert.

After the concert we headed out on the ole Missouri Highway and traveled through most the night and into the morning until we came to Jonesboro, Arkansas and stopped for the night, or I guess I should say morning. It was about 3:00. We then slept until about 10:00 AM and headed out towards Atlanta. We traveled all day and lost and hour and arrived at 11:00 that night. Early the next morning we went to Georgia Aquarium and the World of Coca-Cola.

The Aquarium was very cool and had lost of different kinds of fish. It is also home to the World's Largest Aquarium with 8 million gallons of water. There was Beluga Whales, African Penguins, Sea Lions, Sea Otters, and Sharks. The coolest feature was the 3D movie we got to go see. It featured Deepo the fish explaining about how the decisions we make as humans affect the creatures in the sea.

After about an hour of being around a bunch of children dressed as Pirates we decided that we had enough and headed to the World of Coca-Cola. That place is amazing. We had a problem when we arrived. To get inside we had to go thru a metal detector and there was a sign that said no weapons and Adam had his knife on him that he uses on the farm. We weren't sure if we could sneak it in my purse so Adam hid it in some mulch under a tree and when we got out it was still there and we both then could clear security.

There was so much to learn about Coke. This was a two-story building that was full of coke products, memorabilia, and coke bottles designed by other countries that was given to Coke during the 1996 Summer Olympic Games. Personally I am a Pepsi person, but I loved this place!

We also got to experience our first 4D movie!

It was called the search for the secret formula. What is that secret ingredient inside of Coke that makes it so irresistible. Let me tell you about the 4D movie. You are sitting in a recliner style seat and the movie starts and while the picture is jumping out of the screen you are experiencing real life action with your seat moving and spritz of water in you face and a occasional jab to your back. This was defiantly a movie that you wouldn't fall asleep in. (By the way, the secret ingredient is you, the drinker, you are what makes Coke the product that it is)

At the end of your Coke tour you went to the Taste Tour Room and it was a room of Coke products from all over the World and cups that you could fill and taste and refill and taste and refill and taste and on and on. Some were very good, while others you almost spit out as soon as you tasted it. It funny how people's taste can vary just from country to country with just a sea separating people. This was Adam's favorite part.

After we left the World of Coke we came back to the hotel for a while and then went to Stone Mountain. Being surrounded by so many skyscrapers and traffic it was amazing that there was Stone Mountain just a few minutes from Atlanta sitting amongst trees secluded from hustle and bustle of the city. We rode the SkyRide up to the mountain and the scene was breathtaking.

After the ride back down we hung around until the lazor light show. It was about a half hour show of lazor lights, music, and fireworks. My dad told me to defiantly go see it and it was worth it. It was nice just to be outside and sitting under the stars and watch the light show. Us along with a couple of thousand other people enjoyed it! People brought picnics baskets, crockpots, and even pizza. Everybody was sitting on blankets and lawn chairs.

We are heading on towards Savannah tomorrow. Pray for safe travels and a happy marriage!

Random Thursday

I have vowed to update my blog at least once a week. Lucky for you, nothing has gone on this week that I have taken pictures of so here is a random story of what is going on in the woods.

**Disclaimer - This story might be good for the weak of stomach. Enjoy!

This is Roscoe

He is my puppy.

I have had him for over a year.

I love this picture. I'm not sure why, but I think he looks adorable in it.

It is an old picture, taken about a year ago.

He is a much bigger puppy now. Adam has labeled him the "World's Biggest Maltese".

I think that just makes him fit in my family better. Ha

A little back ground on the whole getting of Roscoe. I went to book club at a fellow church members house and she had these little white fluffy puppies running around her house and I feel in love and I HAD to have one. Some woman see babies and want one, I see dogs (and purses) and want them. I went home to my husband and built up how cute these puppies are and how they are already partially house trained and how baaaaaaaaaaaaaad I wanted one. He said no.

A day goes by, I ask again. He says no.

A few days go by, I ask again. He says no.

A week goes by, I ask again. He says no.

I get mad and he says, "Do whatever you want."

So I got a new puppy! and Adam didn't speak to me for four days.

But I had my puppy.

Fast forwarded many months to present day and we have had some bumps on the road but Roscoe is a member of our family and Adam likes him. (Probably loves him, but won't admit it)

So for the last couple of months we have had an issue with Roscoe's bum stinking. He would smell it and have to go take care of it in his bed. I actually taught him that trick. I told him to act like a gentleman and he would take himself to his crate where I couldn't see it. I am rather proud of myself for that, he can't fetch but he is a gentleman! So then we started noticing that it is getting worse and stinking worse and liquid is actually coming out as well. ( That part is for the weak stomachs, I am done so please read on) So being the concerned parent that I am I "googled" it. There are tons of information on it, so that made me feel better. The problem is that his anal glands get full and it causes a real discomfort for your dog. My scientific research then proceeded to say that you can take your dog to the Vet and have the Vet take care of it or your dog groomer might do it. Well I knew I can scratch my groomer off the list. I'm not sure they cut Roscoe's hair good enough, I'm not going to let them start prodding at his bum. I thought before I take Roscoe to the vet and pay to have this taken care of I would do more research cause if a groomer can do it how hard can it be. Sure enough on the world wide web there is a video. And when you married to a farmer who needs a vet? So I emailed the video to my husband with the following conversation.

Me: I emailed you a video and I want you to take care of it at lunch.

FB(Farm boy): Oh great.
He then proceeds to actually watch the video

FB: You want me to do what?

Me: Come on, Roscoe is in discomfort and he needs his anal glands emptied.

Which I guess at this point you can probably picture what you have to do to empty them. I watched the video with no sound since I was technically at work. You lift up the tail and place your fingers at 5 and 7 o'clock around the bum hole and apply pressure. So see, really how hard can it be?

FB: I don't want to do this. I told you not to get him.

Me: Please. You are so qualified for this and I don't want to take him to the vet.

FB:  I might need you to hold him.

Me: I have seen you stick your arm up a cow to A.I. her in the middle of the field and you can't hold Roscoe and take care of this.

FB: Well he is the world's largest Maltese.

   Time passes

FB: Well I tried it and nothing happened.

Me: Did you do it at 5 and 7 o'clock?

FB: Yes and nothing.

So now I'm not sure what we are going to do. I am also not sure if Roscoe and Adam's relationship will ever be the same. I am pretty sure though Adam will try again. He is pretty persistent with stuff like that. He likes to know he has mastered something.

Same topic different thought:

All of this was new information. I am sitting at work trying to figure out what is wrong with my puppy and I tell my sister this and she goes "Oh yea, Your groomer doesn't take care of that?" Then a day later I'm explaining this to my mom and she goes "Your Granny used to have to do that with her dog" How do two people who don't like dogs and one which the family have dubbed as Cruella Deville know this stuff and not me? Blows my mind. So I can not keep this to myself, I want others that might be reading this and having problem with their dogs bum to know they are not alone.

I'm sure you all are hoping something great happens in the next week so that I will have more pictures and you will not have to read something so personal about Roscoe.

Happy Thursday.

Labor Free Weekend

I had a wonderful what I like to call "Labor Free" Weekend. I didn't do a whole lot but be lazy and spend time with my family. I also attended this 'lil guy's birthday.

This is my nephew Justin, and just happened to turn 3 this weekend. So the family gathered for a birthday party at his house. With sub sandwiches and cake. I just LOVE birthday cake.

The theme was Scoby Doo or Scuby Doooooo if your talking to Justin. He is completely hung up on that furry animal.

It is time to get the party started and Steven is ready to help Justin out with opening gifts and making sure that they are ready to be played with.

Note to self: If you need a Scoby Doo gift you can not find on in the greater Lebanon area or in the surrounding counties. You must travel an hour to Springfield and go to Toys R Us. This aunt was disappointed not to be able to find him a Scoby Doo toy, but was still rather pleased with the gift. I think he liked it too :)

But not as much as he liked Grandma and Grandpa's gift. It was a bright yellow bag full of Scoby Doo characters and even the Mystery Machine. She went to Toys R Us. I think you have to be a grandma to figure these things out.

He then started getting really excited because some of the cards had money in them.He would rip open the envelope and look for money, if it didn't have any he would just throw the card down. It was so funny.

HAPPY 3RD BIRTHDAY JUSTIN!

Lay 'Em Down

*Please start the video, proceed to read and enjoy!

Come down to the river
Come and let yourself in
Make Good on a Promise
To never hurt again
If you're lost and lonely
You're Broken down
Bring all your troubles
Come lay 'em down

All you sinners
And the weak at heart
All you helpless
On the boulevards
Wherever you are now
Whatever evil you've found
Bring all your troubles
And come lay 'em down

We're all tied to the same old failing
Finding shelter in things we know
We're all dirty like corrupted small towns
We'll bring our troubles
We'll bring our troubles
Lay 'em down

All you rich men
And the high above
All of those with and without love
All you burdened broken down
Bring all your troubles
Come lay 'em down

Come all you broken
Come all your helpless
Bring all your burden
And just lay 'em down

What a blessing to welcome my nephew Isaac Michael into the Lord's family on August 15, 2010. He was baptized at the river on the Light Family Farm.

Back in the ole days

Back in the good ole days I walked up hill both ways in three feet of snow.

Back in the good ole days, we had fresh milk every morning.

Back in the good ole days, we could stand out in the street and talk with our neighbors.

Back in the good ole days, we had to work hard for our nickel a week allowance, not like these whippersnappers these days.

We all have heard the story's about the good ole days and how much has changed since then. Let me take you back on a walk to the "good ole days"

It starts with a couple of boys bored with nothing to do

Instead of bringing out the game of jacks or playing hopscotch these country boys came up with a creative way to kill the time.

Endless hours of entertainment.

Two boys and a bug zapper, these are the "NEW" good ole days.

If there is ever a lull in the zapping of those pesky insects, you can help out by finding your own bugs and zapping them.

"You been a bug zapper watcher long?"

Happy Labor Day y'all and create some "NEW" good ole day memories.

Ain't His First Rodeo

The other night after dinner Adam asked if I wanted to go with him to check his heifers, they are starting to calve and he wanted to get them moved to a field where they couldn't go and hide in the woods and to where he can easily check on them. So we loaded up the dogs and headed out.

This dog is still trying to figure out why Roscoe gets all the special treatment. Like riding up in the front of the truck, being able to go inside where it is air conditioning when it's 100 degrees outside, and fresh purified water out of the refrigerator whenever he wants.

There is so much to see and experience when you life consists of being surrounded by the same four walls for 8 hours a day. He wants to know why the other dog gets to run free outside everyday, gets to eat scraps, and doesn't EVER have to be brushed or get a bath. Life is so unfair sometimes when you are a cow dog trapped in a fluff fluff body.

While we were moving cattle Adam spotted it: A new calf. The first one of the season and it's over protective momma. You have to be careful around these new mommas they are all hopped and wiry. Ready to pounce on anything or anyone that might cause harm to her new bundle of joy. Adam saw a challenge, two to three day old calves are not the easiest to get a hold of to tag the ear and when you have a momma lurking, why it's just like really good sale on Black Friday. Everyone is ready to pounce on that one really good item, but once you have that item in your hand there is no greater sense of accomplishment. But that is another story..back to the challenge at hand. Tagging a calf that is able to run

There is the momma, sensing danger. She has her radar on...Must protect my baby.

"Adam let me out, I can't get good pictures inside here"

"No! You'll spook her"

"No I won't, I'll stand over there and be real still and real good, I promise"

"No, I'll never catch her if your running around trying to take pictures. Put that thing away!"

"Fine! I never liked you anyway!"

Now here is where it gets exciting and you'll have to excuse the poor photo set, I had little to work with.

He slams the truck in park, jumps out and chases after the calf...can he go all the way????

No! He did not get his calf. The calf went to the right while the farmer when to the left.

Here is try #2 - The farmer has made sense that if you can put the cow between the truck and the calf, then you can sneak up behind the cow and leap towards the calf just in time before it runs off. Let's see how his game plan works.

He slams the truck in park, Fluff rolls off the seat from the abrupt stop. He jumps out and grabs the calf around the shoulders can he hold it????

Yes he can! He has made contact with the subject. He has the subject in a headlock position. Can he keep the ear tag on the tagger and get it on the calf before the calf frees itself??

Why yes he can. This ain't his first rodeo. He has stepped up to the challenge and succeeded. The calf is now a part of the herd. Forever will it be known as #41 - The first calf of the fall 2010. And if the calf has not suffered enough

You have to give it one of these for good measure.

"Sandi, write down that it is a girl"

"OK, G - for girl"

"NO! H for Heifer"

"Well that doesn't make since you have B for Boy"

Shake of the head "No, B is for Bull, give me that"

I think  I will just stick to taking pictures and holding onto Fluff. He can't handle the excitement of the rodeo circuit.
